The tip allocation and record-keeping system for UK pubs, restaurants and cafés, built for the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023. It works alongside your accountant or independent troncmaster: they run the tronc, and TipLedger does the split to the penny, locks every period and keeps the records the Act asks for.
The Allocation of Tips Act means every hospitality business now needs a fair, consistent method for splitting tips — and a proper record to show it. A spreadsheet can calculate a number, but it can’t prove when something changed, who approved it, or why. TipLedger UK keeps that record for you, automatically, every time.
Get it wrong, and it isn’t just an awkward conversation — workers can bring a claim to an employment tribunal, which can award compensation of up to £5,000 per claimant for allocation, policy, or record-keeping failures.
Every plan includes the full allocation engine, dispute log, PDF reports, and 6-year audit trail. Start free for 30 days — no card required.

Only if the split is decided by an independent troncmaster — a member of staff who isn’t an owner, director or partner, and who decides without the owner’s direction. A manager can do it, as long as the owner doesn’t direct them. That person runs the tips in TipLedger, and your accountant sets up the tronc scheme with HMRC.
If the owner or a director decides the split — even one who also works shifts — HMRC treats the tips as paid by the employer and National Insurance is due, whichever tool you use. Either way, TipLedger keeps you compliant with the Tips Act.
